The NASCAR Hall of Fame, NC Music Factory and Taste of Charlotte are Site to See the Week of ESX
March 1, 2011 — There’s plenty to see and do in Charlotte, NC, making it an ideal destination for the 2011 Electronic Security Expo (ESX), taking place June 6 – 10 at the Charlotte Convention Center.
“Attendees coming to ESX in Charlotte will find no shortage of great food, museums and nightlife to enjoy while in town,” says Ken Gill, founder of CPI Security, a Charlotte-based All Star Host company of ESX, along with Alarm South.
When ESX attendees aren’t at the Charlotte Convention Center for industry-leading education, networking or meeting on the show floor with 200+ exhibitors, here are five attractions and events to check out:
1. NASCAR Hall of Fame – At the NASCAR Hall of Fame, you’ll be able to interact with more than 50 different experiences, including race simulators, tire-changing stations and even a broadcast booth. Take in the history of NASCAR and see 31 cars and nearly 1,000 artifacts. This is also the home of the 2011 ESA Weinstock and Jackson Awards Ceremony and Reception.
2. Taste of Charlotte – Starting on June 10 and running the entire weekend, the Annual Taste of Charlotte Festival offers food and beverages from 30 restaurants in a fun outdoor setting. Admission to the Festival, which is held along Tryon St between MLK Jr. Blvd. and 6th Street, is free, with purchases of coins for food and drink samples.
3. Discovery Place – Experience one of the leading hands-on science centers in the country, where you can watch a short film at the Discovery 3D Theatre, view the deep sea aquariums and design buildings in the Project Build station.
4. NC Music Factory – Enjoy a whole campus of music-related venues, bars and restaurants at this 30-acre location located next to the Charlotte central business district. Using historic buildings already located on site, the NC Music Factory includes multiple stages and the Road Runner Mobile ampitheatre.
5. Carolinas Aviation Museum – Kitty Hawk, site of the Wright brothers first successful flight, may be located on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, but the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte features a large collection of aircraft, helicopters and all the equipment and gadgets you expect from an aviation museum. Located adjacent to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, plan a trip before heading out of town at the end of ESX.
“If you’re a NASCAR fan, Charlotte’s the best town in the country for you,” says Gill. “From the Hall of Fame to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, you’ll get your NASCAR fix in Charlotte.”
ESX attendees will also have the opportunity to go on a backstage tour of CPI Security’s Central Station on Tuesday, June 7. Courses featuring executives from the All Star Hosts, CPI Security and Alarm South, include:
• Cash is Still King (Wed., June 8 at 9:30 AM)
• How to Battle Complacency in the Central Station (Wed., June 8 at 10:45 AM)
• Non-Security Applications for Video Surveillance (Wed., June 8 at 9:45 AM)
• Shift Supervisor Development and Training (Thurs., June 9 at 3:15 PM)
