“I was an adrenaline junkie type of person,” she told Today's Woman magazine. The luncheon, sponsored by Security Sales and Integration magazine, will welcome this Safety and Security Consultant/Trainer and former Director of the National Crime Prevention Institute at the University of Louisville. But this tag line of experience isn’t all that the highly regarded public official has on her resume. With more than 30 years in the loss prevention safety and security fields, Perry spent close to eight years as a trooper and detective for the Kentucky State Police. Perry, a second-degree black belt in Judo, left the Kentucky State Police when her two sons were young. “I wanted to spend time with them and to be a mom. But it was a very hard decision,” she told Today's Woman. Though, as you can imagine, this mom didn’t spend her time at home between the pages of Better Homes and Gardens. Perry opened two home-based businesses so that she could continue to pursue the career she loved and be able to spend time with her children. One business was a private investigation company and the other was a loss prevention and safety company. She's also worked at private security companies, including being the team leader for the Rolling Stones and Alice Cooper at Churchill Downs racetrack. “It was awesome,” she said of the experience. Later in life, Perry became the director of the National Crime Prevention Institute at the University of Louisville. The institute offered classes for average citizens, law enforcement, military personnel, business owners and security professionals with one intent—helping people lower their vulnerabilities to crime. This is the idea behind of Industry IceBreaker luncheon itself. It's aimed at celebrating the relationship between the electronic security industry and the public safety sector. After all, the goals for security integration and monitoring companies and public safety officials are the same—keeping people safe. Perry has an enthralling address that will drive this point home. “We’re thrilled to have Marianna Perry present,” says George De Marco, ESX Chair. “Her experience in public safety, coupled with her understanding of the private security industry, will ensure for an interesting and informative presentation.” The luncheon will also include the presentation of a host of awards, including the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) William N. Moody Awards, the Police Dispatch Quality (PDQ) Awards, the new Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) Five Diamond Marketing Marvel designation and the Electronic Security Association (ESA) Youth Scholarship Award.
