CSAA/NBFAA Profile Study Highlights Product & End Market Involvement of Members

Companies heavily engaged in CCTV, access control and other home and building systems in addition to alarms, serving commercial/industrial/institutional and governmental end markets

September 17, 2007 – The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) and Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) announced today the availability of findings from a recently completed profile study of member companies of both associations.

Conducted in June 2007 by EH Research, the Member Profile Study looks at: • Member company “firmographics” such as business type, annual revenues and number of companies
• Product purchasing patterns in a wide variety of electronic security product and service categories including:
o Access Control/ID Systems
o Burglar & Fire Alarms
o CCTV
o Central Station Equipment and Software
o Sound, Communications, Entertainment & Automation
o Subscription Services such as Monitoring, Telecommunications and Television
• Service of vertical electronic security end markets such as banks, office suites, retail establishments, schools, hospitality, government facilities, Fortune 100 companies and more
• Breakdown of revenues by residential, commercial and governmental
• Number and pricing of systems installed by major category of end market
• Dollar sizing and projected growth in product purchases and projected growth in number of systems installed

Among the key highlights of the studies:
• CSAA/NBFAA member companies are far bigger and longer established than the industry as a whole, with average annual revenues of $2.75 million, median employment of 14 and an average of more than 20 years in business.
• NBFAA/CSAA member companies are heavily engaged in CCTV, access control and other home & building systems in addition to alarms, with more than 8 in 10 involved with access/ID, more than 9 in 10 involved with CCTV and better than half purchasing sound, communications, entertainment and automation products. In fact, average annual expenditures on CCTV equipment ($393,000) actually outstripped alarm equipment ($359,000).
• CSAA/NBFAA companies serve virtually every conceivable end market substantially, led by 89% serving office buildings/suites, 88% serving single family residences, 88% service retail businesses, 83% serving restaurants, 75% serving houses of worship, 68% serving industrial/manufacturing facilities, 64% schools and hotels/resorts and 59% state and local government facilities.
